SIDNEY LUMET: 1945-2011 -- Director Sidney Lumet, whose New York-based films trafficked in cops, criminals and the seductive power of corruption, died on April 8 of Lymphoma at his home in Manhattan. He was 86. Among Lumet's 43 features, such films as '12 Angry Men,' 'Dog Day Afternoon,' 'Serpico,' 'Network,' 'Prince of the City,' 'Night Falls on Manhattan' and his final film, 'Before the Devil Knows You're Dead,' chronicled various aspects of the city's character: Life-or-death decisions by bank robbers and the NYPD, power plays by the media and justice system and honor among thieves. He was married four times, including to socialite Gloria Vanderbilt from 1956 - 1963 and Lena Horne's daughter, Gail Jones, from 1963 to 1978.
